Brill United Vs Hazlemere Kites

Brill started the game well, looking comfortable against the visitors. We scored early on, around the 5-minute mark, when Freddie played a perfect through ball for Gabe. Gabe took off, unopposed, and confidently hit the ball into the corner of the net, leaving the keeper with no chance.

After such a great start and an early goal, it seemed like Brill might win easily - it turned out to be a tough game. Hazlemere came back strongly and Brill worked together really well to keep them at bay with great passing across midfield and united defensive play. When Hazlemere did manage to get some shots on goal, Henry made some crucial saves.

Brill then we went 2-0 up midway through the first half when Harry connected superbly to send an unstoppable rising shot from distance that flew high into the net. Half time score 2-0 to Brill.

The second half was less comfortable for Brill. We had had most of the play and Harpo hit the post with a super shot, but Hazlemere managed to soak up the pressure and relied on a number of breakaways for their attacks. Brill’s defence had to work hard and stay alert to keep them out.

On one occasion Hazlemere looked certain to score when one of their attackers broke clear and headed straight for goal, but Henry did well to rush out, cut down the angles and divert the shot for a corner.

Eventually Hazlemere scored a very well-taken goal to make it 2-1. Both teams then went for it in the remaining period of the game, but Brill held on for a 2-1 victory.

In summing up the game afterwards, Coach Toby gave Freddie a lot of credit for his strong performance and Harry was named MOTM for his match strong performance down the left side and his incredible goal. A joy to watch as ever and especially in the sunshine!!

Brill United Vs Naphill - Friendly

Brill v Naphill Friendly 23rd February 2025

We played a friendly match at home against Naphill, a team in a higher division. Despite the strong cross wind and heavy ground, which made it tough to work the ball, we played great passing football.

The score was 0-0 at halftime. Naphill had hit the post twice but we had our chances too.

In the second half we developed strong patterns of play. We scored our first when a hand ball just outside the penalty area gave Barnes the chance to rifle the free kick into the net through a crowded goalmouth. A little later Will showed great composure to pass the ball into the net in another of our attacks to make it a deserved 2-0.

Naphill scored soon after from a speculative kick towards goal from the left wing, it went way up in the air and looped just under the bar for their only goal of the match.

Despite the challenging conditions, the game was high-energy, ending with a well fought 2-1 victory for Brill.

It was hard for Coach Phil to pick a standout player because every one of the boys had performed so well. He particularly praised Ted’s tireless midfield work, well played Ted! but named Arlo MOTM for his sharp defensive work as part of a resolute back three. A joy to watch as ever!!
