Brill United Vs Marlow Town

It turned out Penn and Tyler’s were too scared for the rematch and cancelled last minute us. Perhaps wisely, after yet another terrific performance by Brill United. This is a team that just gets better week after week 💪

Marlow kindly put together an opposition but must be regretting it now as they gently lick their wounds after the Brill Baptism of fire. Their head coach asked me before the game where Brill was. He will now never forget 💪⚽️💪

A magnificent 7-1 victory today and the team did so well. It was a tight start, locked at nil all for the first 15 mins, helped by some world class last ditch defending by Theo who was magnificent all game. The game was well balanced until a rare goal from a corner. Beautifully launched in by Gabe for Sid to flick it in 1-0.

And then, 5 minutes later, the moment Brill FC had been waiting for all year. A wonderful looping ball from energetic Eddie found none other than Ben ‘Garnacho’ Southeard. Still 30 yards to cover and a defender to shrug off, Ben powered through and slotted the ball right in the corner. 2-0. Pandemonium on the sidelines. What a moment.

Half time came and still plenty of work to be done in the second half to protect the lead. Even if Henry claimed that he’d been busier watching paint dry.

If Carlsberg did U11 football they’d probably bottle up that second half. Wow. Freddie and Harpo completely owned the midfield with excellent tackling and top notch distribution - the opposition could not really compete. Harpo nearly pulled off goal of the season rattling the cross bar from a shot from the half way line. Amazing. It did end up being an assist for Sid who was ready to pounce and claim yet another of his FOUR goals. Incredible.

We might have struggled without the tenacious Arlo ‘Pirlo’ (patent that quickly) at the back. Didn’t miss a tackle and really composed.

Gabe down the right was like watching Brazil (his holiday destination next week so if he does not return he’s likely been nabbed by the national team). Some of those balls into the box were excellent and no surprise he headed to Mother’s Day celebrations with a goal and 3 assists. Some might say Ben’s second goal might have been Gabe’s but VAR showed that the ball was very likely to be blown off course had Ben not been there to tap it in / steal it 😬😬😂😂

Our star of the day and POTM went to Eddie who played the entire game at right back. He showed great bravery, determination and skill - even getting his first assist 💪💪.

What a day and well done Brill ⚽️⚽️⚽️
